I remember a stakeholder arguing that eAuctions d´ont fit the the requirement he had as a Marketing Head. The „poor“ suppliers are only measured by prices, eAuctions are tough and not very friendly. And probably you can use them for production related items but not for Indirect Purchasing categories. He was afraid losing his agencies.
So what to do for your eSourcing project?
I started with pens with a very clear specification. And got around 26% out of it. The quality was agreed with the Marketing Head as the key stakeholder. He was happy. And that´s all about. D´ont take much complicated items or very service oriented items where you only have 10% material costs. Concentrate on items which serve as ´door openers´- next time you have a more complicated one you do not need to fight getting the green light running an eAuction.
Though be aware: the better to define, the better results you will have. And this is in interest of all of you.
